The Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad holds a pivotal position in Islamic scholarship as it provides comprehensive guidance regarding the teachings, mission, character, and practical life of the Holy Prophet. In the contemporary era, Seerah writing emerged as an important field of academic and intellectual inquiry, requiring a critical and research-oriented study of its foundational sources and references. This study aims to present a research and analytical examination of the sources of Seerah writing in the modern age, particularly in the light of the Qur’an, Hadith, classical Seerah literature, and historical narrations. The research investigates the authenticity, reliability, and methodological value of these sources in understanding and reconstructing the life of the Prophet Muhammad. The Qur’an is examined as the primary and most authentic source of Seerah, as it directly refers to significant events, ethical principles, and various dimensions of the Prophetic mission. Hadith literature serves as the second major source, providing detailed explanations and practical insights into the life and conduct of the Prophet. In addition, classical books of Seerah and historical narrations are critically analyzed to evaluate their contribution, historical reliability, and scholarly significance in Seerah studies. The study further explores the methodological approaches adopted by classical and contemporary Muslim scholars in evaluating historical reports and distinguishing authentic narrations from weak or fabricated accounts. Special attention is given to the challenges and trends of Seerah writing in the contemporary era, including modern research methodologies, critical historiography, and the impact of intellectual and orientalist studies on Seerah literature. This research emphasizes the necessity of a balanced, authentic, and analytical approach in utilizing various Seerah sources and highlights their role in preserving and presenting the Prophetic legacy according to contemporary academic standards. The study ultimately contributes to a deeper scholarly understanding of the sources and references of Seerah writing and their significance in modern Islamic research.
